Our code of conduct and ethical policy

Overarching Principles

Fundamental decency is at the core of our culture. Luckies and its team aim at all times to demonstrate the highest levels of integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in order to uphold both our personal and commercial reputations. Our goal is to inspire confidence and trust in all stakeholders. We conduct our business in a competent, fair and efficient manner, recognising that while profitability is a core component of a successful business, we are also guided by the other ‘triple bottom line’ principals of people and planet.

Employees

Luckies employees are always treated with dignity and respect with equal employment opportunities given to all irrespective of their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, maternity, marital status, family status, disability, age, or national origin. Employees are offered a safe and healthy workplace and the company will not tolerate any form of harassment.

Luckies consistently goes out of its way to be an excellent employer and we are a Living Wage employer.

Health and Safety

Luckies is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all of its employees, both on and off its sites. There is a programme of regular health and safety audits and safety training in place. We apply our standards to all visitors to our sites, both permanent and temporary.

Social Good / Responsibility

Luckies seeks to be a business with more than purely commercial goals. Our foremost responsibilities are those of a business; pay our team on time, pay our suppliers on team, provide excellent product with excellent service, generate profit, pay tax. But beyond these goals, we seek to do good by supporting local, unsung, grass roots organizations which are in need of financial and / or other types of assistance.

Environment

Luckies respects the environment and understands the fundamental need to protect it and minimise the impact its operations have on it. We are engaged in a continuous programme of improvement on environmental issues and open ourselves to independent third party verification, inspection, and certification of our progress, including an annual Carbon Neutrality audit and corresponding offset actions. We believe that small incremental improvements add up to genuine gains, which is why we take care of the detail such as weekly recycling collections from our premises for example.

Over time, we are moving towards becoming paperless, 100% plastic free and local sourcing wherever it is commercially feasible.

Customers

Luckies will always take all reasonable care to avoid misleading statements, concealment and overstatement in its marketing and public statements. A fundamental tenet of our culture is the belief that strong businesses are built on strong customer relationships. We seek to build long term partnerships with customers by being genuine, honest and straightforward in our dealings at all times. We will always respect the confidentiality of any information we obtain in relation to customers and competitors alike.

Suppliers

Our supply base tends to be either UK or China based. We value long term relationships with producers we trust and with whom we can nurture ongoing mutually beneficial relationships. Our partners are chosen based on traditional commercial factors such as price, quality, delivery and service, but also on gut instinct for elements such as integrity, decency and fairness. Certification is important, but sometimes can be used to hide behind. We take a balanced approach to ensuring our supplier base is operating within the laws of its country and within the rules of decent and fair behaviour in terms of the conditions and practices it provides for staff. Honesty and openness, in both directions, are paramount in the company’s dealings with its suppliers.  Price is always important, but it is never the sole factor we employ when choosing supply partners. We need to believe that they will consistently and reliably provide product to our exacting specifications and they need to demonstrate this by manufacturing within the compliance tolerances we set (based on the advice and testing of 3rd party experts).

We are committed to doing business in a legal, ethical, socially responsible, and sustainable manner and expect our suppliers, agents, service providers, and contractors to embrace this. Vendors must always comply and stay updated with local laws and regulations in each of the countries in which they do business.

‘Modern Slavery’ is the use of forced, compulsory, trafficked or child labour. It has no place in our business and our internal policies ensure we only work with suppliers and subsidiaries that feel the same.

Our own business is not at risk of Modern Slavery, but some of the partners in our supply chain may carry a risk. We expect all our suppliers to do business in a fair and ethical way. We require all our contracted suppliers to be compliant with all applicable laws, including the Modern Slavery Act. If we ever discover that any of our suppliers’ standards fall short of our expectations, we’ll end our relationship with them immediately.

Product

We are in the business of designing, manufacturing and supplying fun, giftable products. Our output is by nature non-essential and somewhat frivolous, but it is also creatively conceived, well designed, manufactured to a high standard, fully compliant and designed to serve a purpose. Luckies is passionate about creating some of the world’s coolest and most successful gift products. This is in our DNA. We will not develop product for product’s sake. We do not wish to add to the world’s land fill problem or its plastic problem. Within the context of what we do, Luckies seeks to be at the highest end of the moral spectrum in terms of quality, purpose, materials and functionality.

Competitors

Luckies has built and will continue to build its reputation on the basis of its performance alone. It will compete vigorously and lawfully and will not compete unfairly with others. It will not seek to damage the reputation of its competitors either directly or by implication.

Government, Regulators, and Legislators

Luckies seeks to comply with all international, national, and local legislation affecting its operations. We strive to follow the best practice in corporate governance. We will always meet our tax obligations and we will not make any financial contributions or offer support to any political party.

Giving and Receiving Gifts and Entertainment

Our employees will neither seek nor accept for themselves or others gifts, favours, or entertainment without a legitimate purpose, from any person or business organisation that does or seeks to do business with, or is a competitor of Luckies. Gifts, favours, and entertainment may be given to others at the expense of the company as long as these are consistent with customary business practice and are not excessive in value.

Bribes and Corrupt Practice

We do not allow the direct or indirect offer, payment, solicitation, or acceptance of bribes in any form. Any employee found to be involved in any kind of corrupt practice is likely to be immediately dismissed and may have committed a criminal act which could lead to prosecution.
