With many people having headed to Rio de Janeiro for the recent FIFA World Cup 2014, and many more gearing up for the 2016 Olympics, Brazil is fast-becoming one of the most popular destinations on the Scratch Map. Team Luckies take a look at some of the country’s must-see hotspots…
With more beaches that you can shake an ice lolly at, Brazil’s tropical coastline is sure to please seekers of sun, sea and sand. Take your pick from the likes of golden stretches of Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janerio, the palm-tree laden Praia dos Carneiros in Pernambuco, or the secluded beauty of Caraiva.
Standing atop the dizzying heights of the Corcovado Mountain, the giant, 130-feet statue of Christ the Redeemer is a must-see for anyone visiting Rio de Janerio. With his arms outstretched over the city, the iconic figure of Christ offers breath-taking views the streets below, and can be easily reached via taxi or train.
Sprawled between the subtropical forests of Brazil and Argentina, Iguaçu Falls is made up over 250 separate cascades falling over a couple of kilometres over a set of complex cliffs. It’ll provide you with plenty of panoramic photo opportunities, before you set off to explore the dense, lush forests that surround it. Awesome stuff.
Located in the State of Goiás, about 150 miles from Brasília, Parque Nacional Chapada Dos Veadeiros is home to one of the most beautiful and distinctive scenery in Brazil. Pull on your walking boots and explore its cave systems, waterfalls and jaw-dropping geological formations – and make sure you capture the whole thing on camera.
Take a walk on the side side at The Pantanal, one of the world’s largest tropical wetland area in Mato Grusso and Mato Grosso do Sul, and extending into parts of Bolivia and Paraguay. Established at a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, the open marshes of the conservation area are home to hundreds of wild mammals, exotic birds and reptiles, plus rich and varied vegetation. Unmissable.
